How do I set up SKU-based price exceptions?
Give a Company a special price on specific products, without creating a new price list.
SKU-based price exceptions give one Company a special price on specific products, without creating a new price list. Each exception overrides the Company price list for that product only. Every other product still gets its price from the Company price list.
When to use SKU-based price exceptions
Use them when a customer already has a price list but you've agreed a different price on a handful of products. For example, a Company on your Wholesale GBP price list has negotiated a lower price on one product line.
If a customer needs different prices on most of your products, a separate price list is a better fit. See How to Create New Price Lists in HubSpot.
How it works
- The exceptions are stored on the Company record, in the property Price by Product Items.
- The prices have no currency code. They are in the currency of the Company's price list. So an exception is only applied when:
- the Company has a price list set — a custom price list, or a standard one such as Price GBP; and
- the Deal or Quote currency matches that price list's currency.
- An exception is skipped when the Company has no price list, when the currencies don't match, or when the Deal has a Deal price list. In those cases DoPricer prices the product as normal.
- Discounts still apply as usual. DoPricer applies the exception price and any Company discount (SKU, category or default) in the same line item update.
- Like all DoPricer pricing, exceptions apply to new line items only.
Step 1: Create the Price by Product Items property
This is a one-time step for an admin. SKU-based price exceptions are opt-in: DoPricer doesn't create this property when it's installed, and it only uses exceptions in portals where the property exists.
In HubSpot property settings, create a Company property with these details. HubSpot's property editor changes from time to time, so this lists what to enter rather than where to click. See HubSpot's guide to creating properties if you need help finding each field.
Must be exact
- Internal name:
dopricer_price_items - Field type: Single-line text
Check the internal name before you create the property. DoPricer only reads a property with the internal name dopricer_price_items, and HubSpot doesn't let you change an internal name after the property is created. HubSpot suggests an internal name based on the label, so edit it before you save. If it's wrong, archive that property and create it again.
Recommended
- Property label: Price by Product Items
- Group: DoPricer
-
Description (copy and paste):
DoPricer SKU-based price exceptions. Prices for specific products that override this Company's price list. Only used when the Company has a price list set in the same currency as the Deal, and ignored on Deals with a Deal price list.
-
Data entry instructions (copy and paste — this helps people and HubSpot's AI agents fill the property in correctly):
Enter a comma-separated list of SKU@price pairs, for example: AO101@999, XA201@998.99. Use each product's SKU exactly as it appears in the product library. Write each price as a plain number with no currency symbol or code; it is in the currency of this Company's DoPricer price list. Leave empty if the Company has no price exceptions.
Step 2: Add price exceptions to a Company
Open the Company record and enter the exceptions in Price by Product Items as a comma-separated list of SKU@price pairs:
AO101@999, XA201@998.99
- Use the product's SKU exactly as it appears in the product library.
- Write each price as a plain number, as in the example above. The currency comes from the Company's price list.
- Make sure the Company has a price list set, in the currency you'll use on its Deals. Without one, the exceptions are skipped.
Step 3: Check it worked
Add one of the products to a Deal for that Company, in the same currency as its price list. Click Save, wait a few seconds, then refresh your browser.
The line item shows the exception price, and its DoPricer Price Message reads, for example:
Custom price 999 applied from Price By Product Items for SKU AO101
To see the Price Message on line items, see How to add "DoPricer Message" property to my line item view.
Example
A Company has the price list Wholesale GBP, and Price by Product Items is set to AO101@999.
- A GBP Deal: AO101 is priced at 999 (GBP). Every other product gets its Wholesale GBP price.
- A USD Deal: the Wholesale GBP price list and the exception don't apply, because the currencies don't match. Every product gets the standard USD price.
- A Deal with a Deal price list: the exception is skipped. Prices come from the Deal price list. See How do I use a different price list for a single Deal?
